Feel more at home
with your money.
Your accounts, everyday spending and plans for later. Kahu helps you make sense of them, on your own or with the people you share life with.
Less mental maths.
More knowing where you stand.
Every account as one number, how it’s been moving, and what’s safe to spend once this month’s plans are counted.
Example household: five accounts add up to €30,134.29. Over the last year the total grew by €10,080.16. Of September’s income of €3,143.90, Autopilot pays €1,387.58, €551.77 goes to goals and €1,204.55 is safe to spend.
- Every account, one number. Savings, everyday and partner accounts, cash and a USD account, added up in euros.
- See how it’s moving. The last month, three months or a year, as one steady line.
- Know what’s safe to spend. September’s income: what Autopilot pays, what goes to goals, and what’s yours to spend.
What’s already
spoken for.
The loan, the bills, the subscriptions and the installment plans run on their own, and your goals take their share first. Kahu gathers them into one monthly amount, so what’s left is yours to spend.
Example: payments on repeat such as Netflix, the home loan, Electric Co and a laptop plan, sorted into one loan, three installment plans, six bills and ten subscriptions. Together they come to €1,666.47 a month on Autopilot.
- Everything you pay on repeat. A loan, installment plans, bills and subscriptions, each on its own schedule.
- Sorted by kind. One loan, three plans, six bills and ten subscriptions, each group with its monthly share.
- One monthly amount: Autopilot. The groups join into one. Together they are what’s already spoken for, every month.
Yearly and quarterly bills count their monthly share.
Every euro in.
Every euro out.
One month for Alex & Sam. Both salaries meet in the household, then leave for what they paid, down to the shops behind each category.
Example: in the month to 19 September, Alex earned €3,143.90 and Sam €2,363.20, €5,507.10 in all. It went out as Groceries €1,307.99, Apparel €482.63, Household €388.05, Other spending €1,339.58, Autopilot €1,555.15, €5,073.40 in all, and €433.70 was kept. Groceries was 33 payments at 6 shops: Coop €396.80, Lidl €256.31, Tesco €229.55, Carrefour €188.40, Aldi €121.24, Spar €115.69.
- Money comes in. Alex’s and Sam’s salaries, €5,507.10 in all, meet in the household.
- Out it goes. The rest is kept. Each band is as wide as its share, and €433.70 stays with you.
- Open any category. Groceries: 33 payments at 6 shops, €1,307.99 in all.
The everyday account.
The rainy-day fund.
The card you pay off later.
Different kinds of money need different details. Each account keeps the ones it needs, in any currency, and every total is in yours.
Example household accounts: an Everyday Account with €2,305.51 and a €150.00 overdraft, Savings with €25,180.00, €20,610.00 of it set aside for goals, a credit card with €1,809.90 owed against a €4,000.00 limit and a payment due on 15 October, €401.42 in cash, a USD account holding $539.40, which is €496.25 in euros, and a home kept as something you own, at your own valuation.
- Every account has a place. The everyday account and the savings, side by side in one list.
- Each one works its own way. A card keeps its limit and due date. Savings know what’s set aside for goals.
- Even the things you own. A home or a pension, kept as a value you update, in the same list.
You’ve explained that payment before.
Sort a familiar payment once and Kahu can remember it. The next one from that shop arrives already sorted, and you can still change it.
Example: a Lidl payment of €54.20 on 2 September is sorted as Groceries. Kahu keeps the rule “description contains LIDL means Groceries”. On 16 September a Lidl payment of €31.60 is filed as Groceries without any sorting.
- You sort it once. The first Lidl payment gets a category, like any other.
- Kahu keeps a rule. It sits beside your payments and watches every new one for LIDL.
- The next one sorts itself. Two weeks later a new Lidl payment arrives. The rule finds it and files it as Groceries. You can still change it.

It started with
our little family.
I’m Luka. I started Kahu for my wife and me, to make our own finances easier to understand and manage. I write the code; she’s our product owner and our most faithful QA.
Our dog inspired the name and the mascot. Kahu means guardian, which is why a small one looks out from the corner of the app.
